Flamenco Symphony Biography
Flamenco Symphony is a unique and original blend of nuevo and traditional flamenco that features flamenco guitar, as well as gypsy violins and flute. Lead guitarist and songwriter, David Massey, gives small tastes of his many influences including classical, rock, and jazz. As well as compositions with ornate parts and arrangements, there is plenty of improvisational energy and interplay between the guitar and other soloists.
Flamenco Symphony was birthed when David met the virtuosic, gypsy and classical violinist, Chris Kranyak in Austin, TX, during the summer of 2012. The two had an immediate connection and formed the beginnings of the sound that they would describe as "High Plains Flamenco." A larger ensemble was soon formed that featured many of Austin's most talented latin and classical musicians, and became a staple of the diverse music scene in Austin and also surrounding areas. The release of “Ashore” in 2021 put to record the best compositions from this period, including the Texas, hill-country favorite, “High Plains.”
After relocating to St. Petersburg, FL, David Massey has had multiple incarnations of Flamenco Symphony that have included many of the best musicians from the thriving, music city. He is currently working on the follow-up to “Ashore,” and has also released a single with master film composer, Lee Vacaro, called “La Vihuela.”
